Rhinoplasty (Nose Re-Shaping)

Changing the shape of one's nose can be a very dramatic change especially when the nose is very different from the ideal that society generally has.  Often this will transform the person and allow them to be much more confident and comfortable in public.
Rhinoplasty is a well-known plastic surgery operation that goes back many years.  Like many of the other operations that we do this has undergone extensive modification over the years with innovations that have improved the results dramatically.  Dr. Green keeps up-to-date with the latest techniques and communicates with his colleagues to achieve the best possible results in this operation in particular, and in general.

Rhinoplasty today is a customized procedure tailored to the individual patient with precise goals that are planned preoperatively, rather than a cookie-cutter type operation that it used to be in the past.  Techniques have been developed to change the shape of the nose in all possible ways.  The nose can be shortened, lengthened, reduced, or increased in projection, narrowed, or widened as necessary.  The tip can be enlarged or reduced and the base can be narrowed as necessary.  Dr. Green generally uses an "open rhinoplasty" technique.  This allows direct visualization of the nasal skeleton so that a precise modification can be made.  Dr. Green will explain this procedure in detail at the time of your consultation.

Dr. Green will meet with you and take a history and examine you.  Your concerns and wishes will be explored. Problems breathing can be addressed, very often at the same time as improving the shape of the nose and this part of the procedure is usually covered by insurance companies.

Digital photographs will be taken and modifications made in front of you on the computer screen, to determine exactly what it is that we are aiming for.  Often Dr. Green will make several versions of your modified nose so that you can compare.  These photographs are used as a guide at the time of the surgery.

Dr. Green will answer your questions in detail and explained the risks and benefits of the operation.

Margie, the patient coordinator, will also meet with you and discuss the financial issues.  She may also be able to provide insight into the perioperative experience based on her years of working with clients having similar operations.
